The cup should be wide enough to catch two streams of espresso being pulled at once. But larger espresso cups, like the JoyJolt Savor double-walled glasses, were too big, holding up to 5.5 ounces. Even double shots felt stingy and small in these large vessels. The best espresso cups from Le Creuset comfortably held three ounces, suitable for a single or double shot, and had a rim diameter of about 2.25 inches. This was big enough to catch a double stream, but narrow enough for the aroma of the e...

One of the first decisions you’ll come up against is which type of material to choose for your espresso cup. (Have you seen glass coffee mugs?) Generally, double-walled borosilicate glass will give you the best heat retention, with ceramic and porcelain following close behind. Stainless steel is also a worthy option though, as mentioned, some pros prefer to avoid the material due to its ability to impact the flavor of a roast. Finally, both the glazing and affordable vintage espresso sets fir...

We've recommended it for about four years, shop espresso cups and saucers and we’ve yet to have a serious (get it?) complaint with it. It’s quick to heat, comes in a compact package, pulls great espresso shots, and has an automatic steam wand that creates microfoam silky enough for latte art. Some machines, such as the Sage Bambino Plus, provide a bare minimum of assistance and leave the grinding, tamping and brewing entirely to you (and you’ll need to buy your own grinder, too). Press a button,...

Denser materials like stoneware (Le Creuset and Casafina) and porcelain (Sweese and Acme Evo) kept the espresso from dropping in temperature. The notNeutral Vero Cortado was made of thick glass and was bottom-heavy. Double-walled glass cups did maintain temperature but felt much more fragile. If you rarely drink espresso by itself and instead pull shots for drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, the notNeutral Vero Cortado Glass is a great option. Its wide rim reduces splashing while espresso drips...

But for those who aren’t too particular about keeping their coffee piping hot, these mugs are a solid, stylish choice. One potential downside to stainless steel is the chance of a metallic taste, but we didn’t notice this during our testing. They come in four sleek colorways (black, blue, stainless steel, and white) and are also available as an assortment set, which is a popular choice. Plus, they’re budget-friendly and hold up to three ounces, making them perfect for espresso shots or smaller c...
