<br>Elden Ring has been one of, if not the most, acclaimed video games of 2022. With a story co-designed by Game of Thrones novelist George R.R. Martin and coming from the same studio that created the Souls series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice , and Bloodborne , Elden Ring presents an expansive and lore-heavy open-world game that, while difficult at parts, is an extraordinary achievement and an overall bl<br><br> <br>I've beaten Elden Ring two-and-a-half times now (set the Erdtree on Fire on NG++ and haven't returned since) and I'm on my second run of Pathologic 2 . However, there is something about these colosseums that make them seem like the groundwork for something big<br><br> <br>Then, in Elden Ring , Godfrey's Grace was taken by Marika, and he was exiled from the Lands Between. Martin could very well feel that his own Grace was stolen with the trajectory of Game of Thrones . The show, based on a world he created, reached the height of popularity, becoming a cultural phenomenon. Once the backlash started to pour in, he might have felt that the showrunners robbed him of his Grace, leaving him tarnished and sending him - metaphorically - into exile like Godfrey, becoming Elden Ring 's Hoarah Loux . Alternatively, Martin could have seen it as the consequence of his own story growing beyond his control - perhaps no ending would have satisfied his audience. Similarly, in Elden Ring , Godfrey may have seen his exile as the result of him defeating all the worthy opponents in the Lands Between, having no choice but to travel to distant lands in order to grow stronger<br><br> <br>The third and last are the incantations of the Servants of Rot. These servants serve the Rot Goddess who was sealed away beneath the Lands Between by a blind swordsman long ago. Malenia likely becomes Elden Ring 's Rot Goddess after the Tarnished defeats her, and the Servants of Rot thus worship her. Because the Scarlet Rot is akin to poison and disease, its spells inflict poison and rot damage and can even resemble the bugs who worship the Rot Godd<br><br> <br>Elden Ring follows the journey of the Tarnished as they return to the Lands Between after their exile. The Elden Ring has been shattered, and the Greater Will calls the Tarnished back with the guidance of Grace in hopes that they will gather the Great Runes of Power that have been scattered, and make the Elden Ring whole once more to maintain the reign of the Golden Order over the Lands Between.
