Apex Legends has recently released the Season 6 update and plenty of things have changed in Respawn Entertainment's successful battle royale. From guns to Legends, the meta has shifted and because of that, the tier lists ranking those things have shifted in interesting w

Other changes include the ability to remap keys to your controller and changes in bot ratios. Instead of quickly filling the match with bots, each session will now wait up to five minutes to try and fill to 100 players before making up any shortfall with b

Elsewhere, the patch introduced a new Ranked mode for solo players, meaning you can now climb the rankings on your own. It's a good time to start, too, since this marks the beginning of Season 9 and ranks have been reset along with leaderboards. Here are the new rules for Ranked Mode Seaso

New players will often be confused by announcements about "The Ring". How this mechanic works is that the area is surrounded by an area deadly to players that slowly closes in upon a part of the battlefield. This pattern happens a few times throughout a ma

PUBG console patch 9.1 adds frame rate priority mode to PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, allowing players on the more powerful systems to get up to 60fps gameplay. This means that it's a little bit rarer to wield from game to FPS game walkthrough, but it's still as powerful as ever. When calculating where weapons fall in a tier-based list it's important to factor in how easily obtainable a weapon is. It's useless if a weapon is meta-breaking if it can only be used in very select instances. It comes with 15 special shotgun shells, but with the power the Peacekeeper is packing, that's going to be more than enough to dismantle your f

But then again, these games also feature the same characters being shot, stabbed, burned, beaten, and dragged behind the bumper of a car. Yet the worst that happens is a few scratches and a drop or two of blood. If things get really bad, they might pause to apply a bandage while making a face that says "ouch, that smarts!" These are basically bombastic action movies that we get to play. When has an action movie ever ended because the main character has fallen and can't get up? Imagine if Die Hard ended early because John McClane fell down a flight of stairs. We definitely wouldn't be watching that film at Christmast

And look - I'm not against sexy character designs. Actually, I usually like them! I'm a big fan of Senran Kagura and Dead Or Alive, and love the lengths fighting games go to make characters as horny as possible. But there's a way to have something be sexy and make sense, which Overwatch just never does. Plus, the Overwatch designs pander to the dullest and straightest among us - not to mention the whitest. They uphold the hegemony of white, European beauty standards and apply them to characters of color, which just flat-out su

However, Apex's cast isn’t just head-and-shoulders above its competitors. Instead, it goes for the jugular of a personal favorite: Overwatch. The comparisons are impossible to not see. Chatter that dumps lore, signature voice lines, a MOBA-lite class system… the list goes on. But the thing is that not only is Apex clearly influenced by Overwatch, it's hellbent on improving on it. Every person on the design team of Apex went above and beyond the call of duty to deliver a game with characters that are, on both a conceptual and aesthetic level, more interesting than anything Blizzard could come up w

The map also features helicopters that fly on an automated route across the map and into the highlands, which you can only reach via helicopter. The choppers also drop off care packages that you can break open if you happen to be on the ground when one falls. These can feature full-body camo, ghillie suits, and a camo backp

Apex, on the other hand, doesn't really have the same problem. Look at the female characters alone – Wraith, Bangalore, and Lifeline. Only one of them is wearing a body suit, and considering her character (stealthy interdimensional assassin-y lady,) it fits. The other two women wear clothing that makes sense for both their respective roles on the battlefield and their lore, with Bangalore’s fatigues making sense considering her military upbringing and Lifeline’s breathable top and cargo pants fitting with her role as a combat medic, as well as being more casual than something somebody from her wealthy upbringing might wear. On top of their outfits, each woman looks different. Different body types and heights and faces help to give them differentiating factors beyond outfit colors and hairstyles. While I’d like more diversity in terms of female body types and eventually other ethnicities, it’s a pretty bang-up st

Fall damage makes logical sense. After all, it's possible to suffer an intense sprain or broken bone from something as simple as tripping on the sidewalk. Gravity can be one of reality's greatest villains. So when a game is aiming to be as realistic and authentic as possible, having severe, painful consequences for a high fall is a perfectly reasonable design cho
