It could be that I’m worrying over nothing, and Capcom plans to do Resident Evil 4 all the justice in the world, NG+1000 Run but many of the habits it has formed and repeated over the last generation have me thinking otherwise. I hope I’m proven wrong, since I’m still so excited for such a reboot, but not if it does a disservice to what came before

The remake of Resident Evil 3 reportedly shipped two million units in five days. There is an obvious hunger from consumers to relive games of the past rebuilt for modern consoles. The remake of Resident Evil 2 is currently Capcom's sixth best-selling game of all time, with roughly 5.8 million units sold. Similarly, the original 1998 release of Resident Evil 2 for PS1 is Capcom's seventh best-selling game of all time. That game sold 4.96 million units worldwide, not counting the various ports and updated re-relea

With Resident Evil Village opting to retread this sacred ground and falling short in the process, I’m worried that a full remake might fall to the same fate, but considering the trend of Resident Evil remakes, I imagine it’s going to happen whether we like it or not. Now don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to see what it does with Leon’s journey on the new, more powerful consoles, but I also don’t want to come away from it feeling underwhelmed, to feel that perhaps the past should have been left exactly where it belongs. Only time will tell, but right now, I remain unconvin

Antarctica makes for an interesting change of pace during the backhalf, but _ Code Veronica _ is so disconnected from any personal infection or outbreak that it lacks the human touch found in the settings of the original ga

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but Zelda has always been a wonderfully diverse series. Not to the extent of Mario which has crossed all manner of genres in its years, but it is diverse all the same. It has shaped the RPG genre numerous times since the ‘80s, inspiring the likes of Dark Souls, Secret of Mana, Shadow of the Colossus, and now, the aforementioned Genshin Impact. You can see how much the RPG genre varies with Zelda’s inspirations alone and that’s telling. After Breath of the Wild 2, it needs to do something different again. Going back to the classics might not scream new. In fact, it sounds like a step back, aye? Well, that’s the thing. The triple-A space seems to be scared of its own history, desperate to move past it and become more cinematic, more graphically domineering. It’s all about tech and visual prowess. But art style is just as import

How it is currently, _ RE4 _ throws a curveball out of nowhere to attempt to reset the board. In practice, however, this just results in _ Resident Evil 5 _ needing to pick up the pieces and try to pick up where the original _ Code Veronica _ thematically left off. Just one single game of set up can fix this is

Enough time has passed since both the original _ Resident Evil _ remake and _ Resident Evil 5 _ where Wesker isn’t exactly a presence anymore as far as the franchise is concerned. His legacy may be alive, but Wesker is long gone narratively. Which is why remaking _ Code Veronica _ might raise more questions than answers. Modern audiences won’t be able to attach themselves to the intimate history between Chris and Wesker. More importantly, Wesker’s role in _ Code Veronica _ simply has nowhere to go unless Capcom plans on remaking _ Resident Evil 5, _ which seems unlikely given how well the game still se

Leon is once again part of the mainstream as far as video game characters are concerned, with his appearance in _ Resident Evil 2 _ doing wonders for his personality– even giving him some semblance of an arc. Following Leon into the events of _ Resident Evil 4 _ now that the Raccoon City Outbreak is over does make a degree of sense. But so does following Claire into _ CV

Some observers believe that this revelation could drastically change Resident Evil 4's storyline and explain away the Las Plagas parasites as beings artificially engineered by Umbrella this time around. However, this would completely re-write the Resident Evil 4 storyline, as the Las Plagas parasites would no longer have been discovered by militant cultists hundreds of years

Hyrule is no longer a land of the unknown. We’ve explored it for literal days as we talked to citizens, tackled shrines, and eventually saved the world. People know who we are and what we’ve accomplished, so take advantage of that reputation and use it to shape the land in our image. Link shouldn’t be given a voice, but for a narrative set in the here and now to work his identity will need to be cemented in the surrounding landscape. I want to step back into reimagined versions of Zora’s Domain and Kakariko Village and be greeted with open arms by a populace who are happy to see me and perhaps want help with a few local issues as a larger conflict rages on in the background.
