China and India contribute the highest global share of 34% and 19% of world peanut production ranking 1st and 2nd respectively based on FAOSTAT data for the year 2020 (FAOSTAT, 2020). Production and yield of peanut are severely affected by several biotic and abiotic factors. The biological stress factors comprise diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes and insect pests, whereas the abiotic constraints include drought, salinity, water logging, temperature and light.
